The course Intercultural Communication in Contemporary Society (author: Roxana-Elisabeta Marinescu, Ph.D) focuses on the contemporary global business context in which intercultural communication takes place. The author explores different perspectives on cultures and relationships between them, and critiques the various challenges of intercultural communication in the postmodern, postcolonial, multi- or trans-cultural and plurilingual world. Roxana-Elisabeta Marinescu revisits different theories of interculturality (Hofstede, Trompenaars, Hall) and applies them to models of efficient communication in the business environment. New technologies and their role in intercultural communication, the gender perspective, politically correct language are all topics dealt with in detail. Also, this acadmic course includes the author’s studies on different aspects of intercultural communication and popular culture: women’s magazines, advertising and kitsch.
This volume is addressed to students of intercultural communication at Bachelor’s and Master’s Programmes with the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, as well as to the larger public, interested in the respective field.
