The main objective of this paper is to provide, in particular to undergraduate and master’s students, an overview of the main challenges that modern organizations face in the field of human resource management.

The fierce competition to identify and retain high potential employees makes contemporary organisations innovate in human resource practices and policies. Companies strive to turn the workplace into a positive, enjoyable experience for each employee, from the moment of his employment until his departure. The HR practices are miscellaneous, so our intention in this paper is to present only some of the most interesting topics in the field, such as: the relationship between human resources management and digital transformation, the organisational culture and change in the modern organization, the emotional intelligence and/or the cultural intelligence, some aspects of business ethics and corporate social responsibility, the work-life balance, the teleworking, the employee engagement, the onboarding, the personal energy and the employees’ well-being.

We are convinced that the study of these topics contributes to the development of useful competences in the field of human resource management, opens debate and brings new initiatives, methods and tools adapted to business. However, we do not believe that we have exhausted all the interesting topics in the field, so we look forward to the proposals and suggestions of HR students and professionals, in order to extend and improve the content and the layout of this paper.
