The year 2007 marks a new stage for Romanian rural, because the agro-food economy had to adapt to the regulations and market mechanisms imposed through the Common Agricultural Policy. Romania's accession to the European Union also contributed to setting up the principles of the rural development policy thorugh measures like increasing the competitiveness of the agri-food sector, improving the environment in rural areas and diversifying the rural economy.
The book entitled COMPETITIVENESS OF THE ROMANIAN AGRI-FOOD SECTOR IN THE CONTEXT OF INTEGRATION INTO THE EUROPEAN UNION presents an analysis of the agrio-food sector starting from 2007 compared to the other EU Member States, as well as the analysis of the economic and financial activity of the food industry units from Romania.
Although it has a high agricultural potential, Romanian agriculture, at 10 years after Romania's accession to the European Union, still faces gaps regarding the same level of competitiveness as the Western European states. The book proposes a series of solutions that can contribute to decreasing the gaps in competitiveness and to increasing the degree of integration of the agri-food sector of Romania into that of the European Union.
