This paper aims, among others, to bring some new elements both in terms of the concept of direct foreign investment, and in terms of FDI impact on the economies of Central and Eastern Europe.
Given the divergent distribution of FDI inflows in the Central and Eastern Europe and the potentiality of direct foreign investments to be "a new Marshall Plan" for Central and Eastern Europe, we made a comprehensive and detailed comparative analysis of the effects generated by foreign capital in Estonia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Romania, highlighting its impact on economic, social and natural environmental, in terms of sustainable development.
The author makes a practical approach by presenting case studies – analyzing the contribution of FDI in restructuring and development of automotive industry in Romania compared to Hungary, the Czech Republic and Poland, and the impact of foreign capital on one of the most developed areas they Romanian industry during centralized economy, that the cement industry.
