This book is portraying a geographical and geopolitical analysis of Balkan’s evolution from the stage of a place characterized by many violent conflicts to a space surrounded from all the sides by EU member states and NATO.

This study offers information regarding the main stages of Balkan’s geopolitical evolution, having in sight nowadays perspective and trying as well to cover the complex relations between the nation-states which arose in this part of Europe, due to the disintegration of Yugoslavia, and also the attitude of the great powers, the international organisations and the regional powers in relation to this space.

Therewith, this study is emphasizing on showing the main sources of the conflict in the Western Balkans, but also regarding the steps which were taken after 1990 by the states from the region in order to integrate in the Euroatlantic space. The geopolitical and geostrategic sensibility of the subject approached in this paper, represents a permanent challenge for the author, but also for the readers, due to the dynamics of the events from South-Eastern Europe which are still unpredictable.
