Dancing through English for Intercultural Communication

The academic textbook Dancing through English for Intercultural Communication addresses all those wishing to learn English in a pleasant and modern manner, building on already existing competences, skills, knowledge and information from everyday life and creating their own autonomous learning path. The target audience is represented by students wishing to improve their level of English, from „false beginners” to an intermmediate level, i.e A1, A2 and B1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

The textbook is structured in four large areas, corresponding to four modules: General English, English for Special Purposes – Social Dance, English for Business and Intercultural Communication. The proposed themes cover a large area, are up-to-date and informative: from the street artist known under the name of Banksy, to consumerism, leadership, personal and group identity, nation as a national construct, building a career or social dance etiquette.  

The topics are common to the three language levels to encourage learning autonomy and coherence. The materials address transversal learning skills, such as personal development, self-reflection, lead & follow, social communication or non-verbal and artistic communication.   

This textbook is the product of decades of English language teaching and materials design experience of its authors, which were enhanced within the adult education European project ”Oportunidance. Dance Your Way to Other Cultures” (2015-2017). It can be used as such or together with the open access blended learning platform www.oportunidance.ase.ro for improved learning dynamics. Thus classical learning competences are combined with digital ones, specific to online learning.

Dancing through English for Intercultural Communication is a topical, transdisciplinary and interactive textbook, which promotes a multiple perspective of English language learning for enhanced working opportunities.
